Final Election Update…

Just 5 more days until the General Election!

Advance Voting---Walk-in
The Johnson County Election office expects record turnouts so I hope many of you are taking advantage of advance voting.  Even though the walk-in advance voting sites have lines, often extending outside the buildings, the lines move quickly.

For most people who live in the 17th District, the closest walk-in polling site is:
Ten Quivira Plaza
12156 Shawnee Mission Pkwy, Shawnee (1 block west of Quivira Rd, near Westlake's Hardware)
10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. M – F thru Oct. 31st
9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1st

Voting on Monday, November 3rd is only at the Johnson County Election Office (2101 E. Kansas City Road, Olathe) from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon

Advance Voting---Ballot

Today, October 31, is the final day to request an advanced mail ballot. This may be done by printing a form from the JoCo election website (www.jocoelection.org) and faxing it to their office.

To be counted, the ballot must be received at the Election Office before 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.  Your voted ballot may be returned by mail or hand-delivered to the Johnson County Election Office, 2101 E. Kansas City Road.  After business hours, a drop box is available at the front entrance. Ballots may not be faxed.

Advance voting ballots cannot be turned in at the polling place. Those ballots will not be counted.

If you forget to mail your advance ballot, you may vote provisionally at your polling place on Election Day.

Polling Place
To find your polling place go to:  www.jocopolo.com.  Remember polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.  There is no campaigning within 250 feet of the polling place door, that includes wearing political stickers, buttons, or t-shirts into the polling place.

Judges
There are a number of judges listed on the ballot who are up for retention vote.  For information about those judges and a recommendation from the Kansas Commission on Judicial Performance about whether or not to retain each judge, check out this website:  www.kansasjudicialperformance.org.

Thanks
Finally, I want to say a big THANK YOU to those who have put up my yard signs, sent checks or notes of support, and encouraged me in my first campaign.  Now, get out there and vote and remind your friends and family to do the same.

Halloween
Yard Signs
With Halloween approaching, don’t forget to remove your Quigley yard sign(s) for the night.  We don’t want those ghosts and goblins getting creative with my signs just before the election.  Then DO REMEMBER to put the sign(s) back in your yard on Saturday!

Candy Exchange
Smiles Change Lives (an organization that provides orthodontic treatment for children from low-income families) in partnership with MAST Ambulance, Johnson County Med Act and five partner orthodontists is sponsoring a candy exchange event this Saturday, November 1, from 10 AM to Noon.

Kids and adults are encouraged to bring candy to exchange for great prizes.  Each orthodontist will make a donation to Smiles Change Lives equivalent to the weight of candy collected, and the candy will be sent to US troops serving overseas. Parents can also enter a drawing to win great prizes from Briarcliff Village, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, Sheraton Suites and others!

Go to one of these locations in the KC metro:
Burleson Orthodontics - North of the river in Briarcliff Village
Harman Orthodontics - Overland Park at 143rd and Metcalf
Hechler Orthodontics - Overland Park  at 128th and Metcalf
Roth Orthodontics - Shawnee at Shawnee Mission Pkwy and K7
Young Orthodontics - Olathe  at 159th and Mur-Len
Ambulances will be at each location to transport the candy, sirens blaring, preventing yet another orthodontic emergency!

Transportation
87th Street Interchange
Kansas finished a strong second in the voting for the national People’s Choice Award – one of two categories of America’s Transportation Award. Only a Mississippi project garnered more votes than our innovative 87th Street/I-35 interchange project. Of the 55,000 votes cast for the 10 finalist states, Kansas had about 11,000.  Thanks to all who took the time to vote.

T-LINK Calculator Online
The Comprehensive 10 year Transportation Plan expires in 2010 and the Kansas Department of Transportation is seeking input on what the next plan should look like and how it should be funded.  Check out the T-LINK Calculator, http://www.kansastlink.com/calculator, which allows you to create and submit your own transportation program.  This is a fun way to give the department feedback and learn more about Kansas’ transportation needs.
